When you say “awards season,” most people think of the Oscars, Emmys, or Tonys. For Wake Robin, and other facilities that operate a health center, May is the awards season for recognition by the Vermont Health Care Association. And we have a winner!

The Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award was given to Nick Fredette at the annual banquet held May 6. Nick has been part of the Wake Robin clinical team for 11 years and began his career right here as a staff nurse while still in school. The nominating statement highlights his career achievements, working style, and compassion and begins with “It is impossible not to like Nick.” Residents value his ability to translate complex medical information into understandable language. His colleagues recognize his appreciation for human dynamics, organizational culture, and his deep experience. He helped lay the groundwork for our hospice protocol and continues to be a valued member of the Health Services leadership team.

On another front this month, the New England Leading Age chapter also recognized work in our field and presented the Excellence in Healthcare Leadership Award to Heather Filonow, Wake Robin’s Director of Health and Resident Services. She was recognized for her attention to detail and understanding of the complexity of the community around her. Heather can take the background role, supporting her team and allowing them to excel, and she will also be front and center at all hours, backing up her staff during emergent situations. The nominator said: “Heather holds herself to a high bar and, in doing so, creates an environment where others are inspired to do the same.”
Congratulations to Nick and Heather…two of the stars of Wake Robin’s Linden Health Center.
